Narrative
TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — One person died Tuesday night after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Austin’s North Lamar neighborhood.
The fatal incident occurred at the corner of North Lamar Boulevard and Rutland Drive, near North Park Shopping Center. Austin Police responded to the scene at about 8:20 p.m.
An early investigation shows the cyclist was using the crosswalk to travel across the intersection when they were hit by a vehicle, believed to be a white-colored sedan. The driver then fled the scene, failing to stop and alert authorities.
The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene, confirmed the APD.
At this time, investigators continue to work the case and a search for the hit-and-run driver remains active. Any information that leads to an arrest could result in a reward of up to $1,000. The APD’s Vehicular Homicide unit can be reached at 512-974-8111.
