The fatal collision occurred in the 1500 block of northbound US-183, in an area north of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, just before 1:50 a.m. It was unclear what led up to the wreck, but two passengers in the sedan were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the sedan suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported a local hospital. No injuries to the tow truck driver or anyone else were reported. A section of the northbound highway at East Riverside Drive was shut down during the response and initial investigation.
