TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — A 7-year-old girl died Saturday, February 4, after being hit by an SUV during a series of vehicle crashes in north Austin.

The fatal incident occurred at the intersection of North Meadows Drive and Newmont Road on February 4, at about 4:24 p.m. Austin Police responded to the scene shortly after.

According to authorities, an SUV and a sedan were initially involved in a crash. The driver of the SUV, a 17-year-old boy, continued away from the scene until the SUV hit two parked pickup trucks at a duplex. The young girl, who was walking between the two parked vehicles at the time, was also struck and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The teen driver fled the scene but then returned some time later. He was arrested for “accident involving injury,” a second-degree felony.
