Narrative

TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — A man died early Sunday, April 9, after being struck by a vehicle on the Interstate 35 Service Road in downtown Austin.

The Austin Police Department said the fatal incident occurred on the northbound lanes of the road between 6th Street and 7th Street. Officers and Austin-Travis County EMS crews responded to the scene at about 2:15 a.m.

According to investigators, the victim was crossing the street when he was struck by a driver in a Kia Forte. The Kia Forte then went on to hit another unspecified vehicle and fled the scene.

The male pedestrian died from his injuries at the crash site, confirmed officials.

The APD continues to investigate and search for the driver and suspect vehicle, described as a blue 2016-2018 model, four-door Kia Forte with heavy front-end damage.
