Child and 2 adults hospitalized after pin-in collision on SH-71

AUSTIN, TX – Three people were hospitalized following a pin-in collision on State Highway 71 on Tuesday afternoon, according to Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS).


The crash occurred near the intersection of W SH-71 and Thomas Springs Road at 1:57 p.m., and reportedly involved multiple vehicles.

One person was pinned within the wreckage for around 40 minutes. By 2:38 p.m., the victim had been freed from the vehicle.

Four people were declared trauma alerts after the crash.

One of those victims was taken to St. David’s South with serious, possibly life-threatening wounds.

Another adult victim and a child were taken to the hospital to receive treatment for non-critical injuries.

The fourth victim refused transport at the scene.

ATCEMS also reported damage to a fire hydrant and downed power lines near the site of the crash.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area and to expect heavy traffic delays near the scene.
