AUSTIN, TX – A woman is facing felony charges following a fatal collision on Dessau Road on Monday afternoon that involved multiple vehicles, including a Capital Metro bus.

According to KXAN, the crash happened in the 12200 block of Dessau Road at 1:51 p.m., as 36-year-old Octavia Antoinette Scales, driving a Toyota Corolla, was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed.

She collided with a Capital Metro bus, an Infiniti, and a Dodge Ram. The impact sent the bus into a nearby Audi.

A passenger in the Corolla, 46-year-old Latesha D. Washington, was taken to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Scales was taken to the hospital with possible head wounds.

Scales was reportedly acting as though she was under the influence after the crash, and she failed multiple field sobriety tests. While she had not been drinking before the crash, Scales admitted to smoking marijuana while driving. She also was under the influence of multiple prescription drugs, including a muscle relaxer, which is known to cause difficulty driving, according to the FDA.

Scales, who is said to have initially blamed the crash on the victim, is known to have multiple arrests and convictions for DUI-related offenses.
