Person dead after being hit by CapMetro train near Research Blvd

AUSTIN, TX – One person died after being struck by a CapMetro train near Research Boulevard this afternoon, according to information from KXAN News.

The collision happened in the 9000 block of Research Boulevard near Burnet Road at around 2:40 p.m., when a person was struck by a train.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead after the crash.

According to police, the railroad safety gates were down when the crash happened, though their investigation continues at this time.

The northbound Highway 183 frontage road was closed near the crash scene as authorities worked. Drivers were told to expect significant traffic delays.

Light rail traffic was impacted, but CapMetro offered buses to affected passengers.
