Narrative
BASTROP CO., TX – Two people died Friday in a three vehicle crash involving a school bus along a highway in western Bastrop County.
The incident happened around 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of TX-21 and Caldwell Road, which is just west of St. Mary’s Colony and east of TX-130.
Police say that a cement truck left its lane of traffic, entered the wrong side of the highway, and collided head on with a school bus carrying 44 preschool students and 11 adults. A third vehicle then crashed into the rear of the school bus.
A preschool boy from the bus died in the crash, as did the driver of the vehicle that hit the rear of the bus.
Additionally, 51 people sustained injuries in the accident.
A full investigation is underway to determine why the driver of the cement truck veered into oncoming traffic.
