2 men dead after crane falls onto pickup truck in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, TX – Two men were killed after their pickup truck was crushed by a falling crane on I-10 in Beaumont last week, according to 12 News Now.

The accident happened on westbound I-10 near Smith Road at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, when a crane reportedly malfunctioned, and dropped the boom of the machinery onto a grey 2013 Toyota pickup truck.

37-year-old driver Sarfaraz Karowadia and a passenger, 42-year-old Altaf Kasowadia, both residents of Friendswood, were killed in the accident.

The crash led to the cancellation of scheduled road closures on I-10 as authorities continue to investigate.

The incident is under investigation by the Department of Public Safety, OSHA, and other federal groups.
