6-year-old boy fatally struck by ATV at park in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, TX – A 6-year-old boy was fatally struck by an ATV at a park in Beaumont last weekend, according to 12 News Now.

The crash occurred at Tyrrell Park, east of Fannett Road and the East Freeway, at 7:09 p.m. Saturday, as a 36-year-old man was operating an ATV in the park, which does not allow the use of ATVs or vehicles in the grassy areas.

A 6-year-old boy was struck by the ATV, and he was taken to the hospital. There, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The driver was taken into police custody on outstanding warrants that were unrelated to the crash.

Authorities are discussing enforcing stricter rules and higher penalties for people who drive ATVs in the parks.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the victim’s family pay for funeral bills and other expenses.

The accident remains under investigation.
