Elderly Groves man fatally struck by Jeep in Hwy 69 multi-vehicle crash

PORT ARTHUR, TX – An elderly man trying to retrieve an item that had fallen out of his truck was fatally struck by a Jeep in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 69 in Port Arthur on Sunday afternoon.

According to 12 News Now, the crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. in the 8400 block of Hwy 69, as 73-year-old Groves resident Gary Wayne Moore got out of his 2013 Ford pickup truck to collect an object that had fallen from the bed. He was then struck by the driver of a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. Another two vehicles were also involved in the crash.

It is unclear if any other people were hurt in the collision.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
