Elderly, legally blind man killed after driver crashes into asst. living facility in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, TX – An elderly, legally blind man died this weekend after a driver crashed into his bedroom at an assisted living facility in Beaumont, according to 12 News Now.

The crash occurred at The Crossing Apartments, located in the 3700 block of Lucas Drive, just after 5:45 p.m. Saturday, when a 54-year-old hearing-impaired man crashed a brown Toyota Solara into an apartment bedroom.

An 86-year-old resident, legally blind man W.D. Mount, was then trapped beneath the vehicle. A wrecker truck was required to help extricate him from the Solara.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, then succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the official cause of death.

The driver was not reported as injured.

At this time, the crash is believed to have been an accident, though authorities continue to investigate.
