Grandmother and 4 children hospitalized after 8-year-old crashes ATV in Jefferson Co.

HAMSHIRE, TX (JEFFERSON COUNTY) – A grandmother and four children were taken to the hospital after an ATV operated by an 8-year-old child overturned in Jefferson County on Friday afternoon.

According to 12 News Now, the accident happened near Hamshire, near the intersection of W Powers Road and Brush Island Road, at about 3:15 p.m.

The 8-year-old operator of a 2021 Polaris Ranger ATV was reportedly speeding when they attempted to make a left turn. The child lost control of the ATV, which then overturned multiple times.

55-year-old Houston woman Wendi Martinez, the grandmother, was airlifted to the hospital in Houston with severe injuries.

The 8-year-old and three other children, ages 10-13, were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

It is unclear if anyone will be facing charges in connection with the accident.
