1 Killed, 2 Injured in Semi-Trailer Crash on Highway 73 in Port Arthur

PORT ARTHUR, TX – A 19-year-old was killed and two others were injured in a collision on Highway 73 in Port Arthur on Sunday morning, 12News reports.

The incident took place just after 10:30 a.m. yesterday morning in the eastbound lanes of Highway 73, near the Veolia North America Treatment Complex. The vehicles involved in the crash were a 2012 Chrysler passenger car and a 2007 Peterbilt semi-trailer.

A wide load ahead of the two vehicles caused traffic to slow. The driver of the Chrysler did not reduce their speed, causing the vehicle to hit the rear of the Peterbilt.

A passenger involved in the collision, 19-year-old Yavonne Mayes, of Houston, was killed. The driver of the Chrysler and another passenger were taken to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth for treatment. The driver of the truck tractor was unharmed.

Texas Department of Safety continues to investigate the fatal collision.
