Pedestrian killed while trying to walk across I-10 in Jefferson Co.

WINNIE, TX (JEFFERSON COUNTY) – A pedestrian was killed near the Jefferson and Chambers County lines this weekend after he was struck by an SUV on I-10, according to 12 News Now.

The accident occurred in Winnie, near mile marker 832 of I-10 eastbound, at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

The driver of a Kia SUV, a 43-year-old from Beaumont, was driving in the outer lane of the interstate when a man, who seemed to be crossing the interstate, jumped over a concrete barrier.

Despite an attempt by the driver to swerve out of the way, the Kia collided with the pedestrian.

The victim, who has yet to be identified by authorities, died at the scene.

The driver was not reported as injured.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
