Narrative

CASTRO CO., TX – A 61-year-old Lubbock man died Thursday after a two-vehicle crash along the highway just north of Dimmitt.

The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. about nine miles north of Dimmitt on US-385, which is northeast of Playa Lakes Wildlife Management Area.

Police say that the victim’s southbound Ford F-450 entered the northbound lane of US-385 and sideswiped another pickup truck. The collision caused the southbound pickup to leave the roadway and crash into a ditch.

The driver of the southbound vehicle, identified as Russell Smallwood, died at the scene of the accident.

It’s unclear if the other driver sustained injuries in the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
