Coach at Caldwell ISD killed in 18-wheeler crash on Hwy 21 in Bryan

BRYAN, TX – A coach and teacher with the Caldwell school system was killed in a collision involving an 18-wheeler truck on Highway 21 in Bryan on Friday morning, according to information from KBTX.

The crash happened on W Highway 21 and W OSR at around 6:30 a.m., after the driver of an 18-wheeler truck failed to yield the right of way as they were making a left turn. The truck then collided with an SUV.

The driver of the SUV, 29-year-old Bryan-College Station resident Ryan Hooper, was pronounced dead after the crash.

The truck driver remained at the scene and has received a citation for failing to yield.

Hooper was a 7th-grade teacher at Caldwell ISD, where he also coached Caldwell Junior High football and Caldwell High School basketball.

Caldwell ISD released a statement stating that counselors are available to every student and staff member in the wake of Hooper’s death.
