BENCHLEY, TX (BRAZOS COUNTY) – A driver was hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Highway 6, northwest of College Station on Wednesday night, according to KBTX.

The crash occurred in Benchley on Hwy 6, near OSR, at about 8 p.m., as 52-year-old Hearne resident Melissa Baker was driving her Kia home from work. She was struck from behind by the driver of a white pickup truck who then fled the scene.

Baker was sent into the culvert and may have been airborne for a short time.

She was taken to the hospital for the treatment of foot and neck injuries.

According to her daughter Hollie Loney, Baker already has a preexisting condition that causes her issues with her feet.

Baker’s family is asking the driver to turn themselves in and to do the right thing.

The accident remains under investigation by the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
