Nurse killed in crash on Hwy 21 after truck driver fails to yield

BRYAN, TX – A nurse from Caldwell was killed in a crash with a semi-truck on Highway 21 in Bryan on Monday night, according to information from KBTX.

The crash happened at about 6:20 p.m. on Hwy 21 near Pleasant Hill Road when the driver of a 2016 Mack semi-truck, 44-year-old Livingston resident Cheka McCoy, failed to yield the right of way while pulling out of a private driveway.

A 2018 Toyota then crashed into the back of the truck. The driver of the Toyota, 26-year-old Caldwell resident Miranda Meckel, was pronounced dead at the scene.

McCoy was not hurt in the crash.

Meckel was a nurse at St. Joseph Health who was also a volunteer with vaccine efforts.
