Bicyclist intentionally struck and killed by hit-and-run driver in Mathis

MATHIS, TX (SAN PATRICIO COUNTY) – A bicyclist was killed after being run over and dragged a long distance by a hit-and-run driver in Mathis this afternoon, according to information provided by 3News.

The crash happened in the 500 block of W Pecan Street near N Frio Street and the Gonzalo Paiz Park at around 2 p.m., as a 32-year-old man was riding his bicycle in a grassy area near the intersection.

Authorities believe that the driver of a small black vehicle then intentionally drove off the roadway and collided with the bicyclist, dragging him between 40 and 50 yards. The driver then fled the scene.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, was later pronounced dead.

Authorities are searching for the hit-and-run driver and the vehicle, which may have heavy damage to its front end.
