Multiple people injured after alleged DUI crash near Sunrise Mall

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – One person is facing charges following a multi-vehicle collision that sent several people to the hospital, including a young child, in Corpus Christi on Monday afternoon.

According to information from KRIS TV, the accident occurred near the intersection of South Padre Island Drive and Airline Road at about 2:30 p.m., as a 47-year-old driver was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed.

The speeding vehicle collided with two vehicles, then crashed and overturned into a parking lot near a Planet Fitness at Sunrise Mall. There, it collided with multiple other vehicles.

Three men were severely injured in the accident, with two of those critically so.

A mother and a young boy sustained non-critical wounds in the incident.

The suspect driver was also injured in the crash and is believed to have been under the influence of drugs when the incident occurred. They are facing three charges of intoxication assault in connection with the collision.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash at this time.
