KELLER, TX – A man who was walking with his wife was killed after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in a Fort Worth suburb on Saturday evening.
According to NBC DFW, the accident happened in the 1100 block of Johnson Road at about 6 p.m. Saturday evening, when 58-year-old Feng Zhou was walking in the grass along the roadway with his wife.
He was struck by the driver of a grey SUV who veered off the side of the road. The driver then fled the scene, headed eastbound down Keller-Smithfield Road.
Zhou died as a result of the accident. His wife was not reported as injured.
The victim was reportedly only a short distance from his home when he was killed.
Albert Zhou, Feng Zhou’s son, described his father as “the backbone of [his] family,” and as a “loving, caring dad, and also husband.”
Authorities have seized what they described as a vehicle of interest in connection with the accident. They are hoping to use security footage in order to continue to investigate the collision.
The accident occurred as a rash of anti-Asian hate crimes has gripped the country, though authorities state there is no evidence at this time that the driver intentionally struck Zhou.
His family has started a GoFundMe in order to pay for funeral expenses and to help fund a charitable foundation in honor of Zhou’s life.
