Off-duty officer hospitalized after being struck by hit-and-run driver on I-635

DALLAS, TX – An off-duty police officer assisting with traffic in a construction zone was hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Dallas early Friday morning, according to NBC DFW.

The crash occurred on I-635, near Plano Road, at about 3 a.m., as an off-duty officer with the Edgewood Police Department, which is located about 60 miles east of Dallas, was helping with traffic control near a construction site.

The officer was in his vehicle when he was struck by the driver of a Maserati which was reportedly traveling at a very high rate of speed.

The driver of the Maserati fled the scene and was soon after picked up by another person passing by.

The police officer was taken to the hospital for treatment and was in stable condition.

Authorities continue to investigate the case and search for the hit-and-run driver.
