1 extricated after wreck near I-10 offramp in NW El Paso

EL PASO, TX — According to KTSM, one person was injured Saturday due to a crash off an Interstate 10 exit ramp near Sunland Park Mall in northwest El Paso.

Emergency crews responded to the scene near the Sunland Park Drive offramp, just below the Sunland Park Mall sign, shortly after 9:00 a.m.

Details remain limited at this time, but a four-door Jeep came to rest nearly 10 feet above the roadway.

Crews had to perform a rescue extrication to remove the driver before sending the patient to a hospital. The extent of the victim’s injuries was not disclosed. It was unclear whether anyone else was in the car at the time.

Investigators were also working to determine how the guardrail and k-bar barriers near the shoulders of the ramp stayed intact even as the vehicle sustained structural damage.

An investigation remains ongoing.
