Driver dies after hit-and-run collision in central El Paso

EL PASO, TX — According to CBS4Local, a 61-year-old man died early Sunday after a two-vehicle crash in central El Paso’s Pershing-Government Hill neighborhood.

Authorities said the fatal incident occurred in the 1000 block of Copia Street, near La Luz Avenue, at about 2:59 a.m.

An early investigation shows the victim was driving a 2014 Hyundai Elantra northbound on Copia Street. At one point, the Elantra was hit from behind by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado in the same lane.

The Elantra was pushed up a curb where it came to a stop.

After the Silverado traveled off the road and slammed into a rock wall, its driver fled the site on foot.

Investigators said the driver of the Elantra was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No other details have been shared at this time. An investigation was in progress.
