EL PASO, TX — An El Paso Police Department unit was hit by another vehicle early Thursday on Interstate 10 in central El Paso’s Tejas area, reports KTSM.
The collision took place on the eastbound interstate near Geronimo Drive, at around 2:30 a.m.
Few details have been released at this time, but officials confirmed the EPPD vehicle was vacant at the time of the wreck.
It was not immediately clear whether the driver of the striking vehicle or anyone else was injured.
All eastbound lanes at Geronimo Drive were shut down as the EPPD’s Special Traffic Investigators (STI) worked the scene.
Motorists were advised to take Montana Avenue to avoid delays.
The eastbound interstate remained closed until well past 7:00 a.m., more than 4 hours later, suggesting a serious accident.
