DUI suspect hits, damages EPPD patrol car on I-10 in central El Paso

EL PASO, TX — According to KVIA, a suspected intoxicated driver struck a marked EPPD vehicle early Friday at the site of a prior crash on Interstate 10 in central El Paso.

The wreck occurred near Exit 21 to North Piedras Street, in the Five Points West area. It was first reported by the El Paso Police Department later that morning at 8:47 a.m.

Authorities said officers were investigating a crash involving a different DUI driver when the patrol unit was hit.

No injuries were reported, but the EPPD said the incident marks the fifth instance this past week that a police vehicle has been rendered inoperable. Officials did not say how many of the damaged units were total losses.
