E-cyclist dies after hit-and-run crash on I-10 EB in central El Paso

EL PASO, TX — A 25-year-old cyclist died early Sunday after a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 10 in central El Paso’s Virginia area, according to KVIA.

The fatal incident occurred on the eastbound interstate at Exit 20 to North Dallas Street. It was first reported at around 3:30 a.m.

An early investigation indicates the victim was riding an electric bicycle eastbound in the far right eastbound lane. At one point, the cyclist was hit from behind by a driver in a black F-150 pickup truck. That driver fled the scene, and moments later, a second vehicle that was heading for the exit hit the victim, who was lying on the roadway.

Officials said the second driver stayed at the scene and immediately called authorities.

The victim was pronounced deceased, confirmed police.

An anonymous tip later led to the arrest of the fleeing driver, a 42-year-old man. He has since been charged with “accident involving death,” and was booked into jail on a $10,000 bond.
