Power outages reported near downtown Canutillo after driver hits electric poles

EL PASO COUNTY, TX — A driver slammed into multiple electric poles Monday afternoon, causing power outages near downtown Canutillo, according to KFOX14.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at the corner of Talbot Avenue and Doniphan Drive at about 1:00 p.m.

It was unclear whether any other vehicles were involved, but officials said several poles were knocked to the ground. As a result, households and businesses within a five-block radius lost power.

No injuries were reported in the incident, but power was not expected to be restored for at least three hours.

Doniphan Drive was partially shut down for the duration as repairs were made. All westbound traffic was re-routed, and eastbound drivers were told to take State Highway Spur 16 instead.

No further details have been shared as of this writing.
