UPDATE: Driver identified after fatal crash into east El Paso medical center

EL PASO, TX — A 58-year-old man has been identified as the driver who died Sunday after crashing into a medical center in east El Paso, reports KTSM.

The fatal collision occurred at Texas Oncology, a cancer treatment center located along Gateway Boulevard East. It was first reported at about 11:40 a.m.

A preliminary investigation by the El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigators (STI) show the man was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck eastbound on Interstate 10 when he veered to the left of the roadway. The pickup struck the concrete barrier before veering to the right and traveling across all traffic lanes.

Officials said the vehicle continued across landscaping and the travel lanes of Gateway Boulevard East before crashing into a business sign and the medical center’s rock wall.

Medics rushed the driver to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
