Narrative

A 75-year-old man was charged after a crash early Saturday on Interstate 35W that killed one person and hurt another near Grandview. The fatal wreck occurred on the southbound lanes about two miles north of the city on November 19, just before 2:00 a.m. According to officials, the male suspect was driving a 2015 Jeep Patriot southbound when the vehicle hit the back of a 2022 Ram 1500. The impact of the crash caused the Ram to overturn and strike a concrete pillar of an overpass. The driver of the Ram, a 35-year-old Cleburne resident, died from their injuries at the scene. A 28-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Ram was transported by airlift to JPS Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition. The causing driver was also transported to JPS Hospital. He was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. An investigation remains ongoing.
