Driver accused of intentionally running over and killing mother, hurting 2 others outside Tex-Mex restaurant

KATY, TX – A driver is accused of intentionally plowing into a crowd of people outside a Tex-Mex restaurant in Katy, leading to the death of his mother and the injury of two other people.

According to KHOU, the accident happened on N Mason and the Katy Freeway at about 1 a.m. Thursday, when a fight happening inside the restaurant spilled over into the parking lot.

Homero Lopez is thought to have then intentionally rammed his vehicle into a crowd, striking his mother, 35-year-old Crystal Gomez, and two other people. He is said to have initially fled the scene, but later returned.

Gomez was airlifted to Memorial Hermann, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Two other people were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

Lopez was taken into police custody on charges of murder and two counts of hit-and-run.
