Narrative

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — One person died early Tuesday, February 14, after their SUV collided with an 18-wheeler on the North Freeway in Spring.

The fatal accident occurred in the 22600 block of the freeway, at the intersection with North Hardy Toll Road. It was first reported by  Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez at 4:10 a.m.

Authorities have not released the sequence of events leading up to the crash, but the driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It was unclear whether the driver of the big rig was injured.

All northbound lanes were initially reported closed in the immediate aftermath, with traffic being diverted off the roadway at Exit 72, but two northbound lanes later reopened. The southbound lanes toward Houston remained open.

An investigation remains underway.
