SHELDON, TX (HARRIS COUNTY) – A woman who had recently given birth to a premature baby was killed in a train accident in Harris County on Wednesday, according to two reports by KTRK.

The crash happened in Sheldon, near the intersection of Sheldon Road and Beaumont Highway, at about 5 p.m.

The driver of a BMW X3, Brittinie Green, drove around two vehicles that were stopped at a train crossing and around the railroad crossing arms that were reportedly down to indicate a train was approaching.

Green drove across the railroad tracks, and her vehicle was then struck by an Amtrak train headed for Los Angeles.

Passenger Rhonda Clay, who had delivered a premature baby girl via C-section a few days prior, was thrown from the vehicle during the crash. She died at the scene.

Green was airlifted to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

She is facing charges of manslaughter in connection with the crash.

Clay’s baby girl will be raised by family members, one of whom described Clay as his best friend, and by another brother as his biggest supporter.

No occupants of the train were reported as injured.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
