Pedestrian fatally thrown 100 ft into air by driver trying to beat red light

HOUSTON, TX – A driver attempting to speed through a traffic light before it turned red collided with a pedestrian in a fatal hit-and-run crash in the Galleria area early this morning, according to KHOU.

The crash happened at the intersection of Westheimer Rd and Fountain View Dr and was reported by Houston PD at 3:17 a.m.

A driver who is suspected of having been under the influence collided with a woman crossing the street at a crosswalk, resulting in her being thrown into the air at a height of over 100 feet.

The driver then fled the scene but was apprehended by authorities about a mile from the crash scene.

He was reportedly driving over double the speed limit, which authorities believe directly led to the victim’s death.

The driver is facing felony hit-and-run charges, but will possibly be charged with more crimes, including intoxication manslaughter.

Authorities did not publicly reveal the identity of either the victim or the driver.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
