Police chase of reportedly stolen vehicle ends in death in SE Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A man was killed during a police pursuit in the southeast Houston area last week, according to KTRK.

The accident occurred in the 1900 block of Evergreen Street, near Kernel Street, at about 11 a.m. Friday morning, when Houston Police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had been reported as stolen.

The driver, a man in his 20s to 30s, reportedly fled the attempted stop at a high rate of speed.

He collided with a tree, and the vehicle then caught fire, trapping him inside the wreckage.

Despite resuscitative efforts performed by officers, the driver died at the scene.

No other injuries were immediately reported.
