ROSENBERG, TX (FORT BEND COUNTY) – Authorities believe that a couple was under the influence when they allegedly stole a U-Haul truck, then led police on a wrong-way chase down US-59 for about 30 miles early this morning.

According to KTRK, the incident began near the intersection of Tobola Street and Avenue L just at about 1:35 a.m. when the driver of a U-Haul truck, Armando Lerma, reportedly failed to comply with a traffic stop.

The truck finally collided with a concrete barrier alongside US-59, and Lerma’s female passenger was trapped within the wreckage.

Lerma attempted to flee the scene on foot, but police were able to apprehend him and take Lerma and the passenger, Jessica Yanez, to the hospital for the treatment of undisclosed injuries.

The couple will be facing charges, according to authorities.
