Two dead after crash in NW Houston splits pickup in two, sets 2 vehicles on fire

HOUSTON, TX – Two people were killed in a dramatic, fiery collision that ended a police chase in Northwest Houston early Friday morning, according to KHOU.

The accident occurred on Beltway 8, near Clay Road, at about 4 a.m., as a deputy with the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office attempted to chase down a Camaro that was speeding and reportedly driving without its lights on.

The deputy is said to have had trouble keeping up with the speeding driver, who may have been traveling at about 100 mph on the toll road.

The Camaro then exited the beltway, and collided with a pickup truck, causing both vehicles to erupt in flames. The impact caused the pickup truck to split in two.

The man driving the pickup and the driver of the Camaro both died at the scene. Their identities were not immediately released.

The accident remains under investigation.
