Two women killed, another injured in South Fwy wrong-way accident

HOUSTON, TX – Two women were killed and at least one other person suffered serious injuries as a result of a wrong-way crash last night in southeast Houston, according to FOX 26 Houston.

The accident occurred in the 7400 block of the South Freeway (Highway 288), near Almeda Genoa Road, as the 21-year-old operator of a black Mazda 3 was driving the wrong way on the southbound lanes of the highway.

The Mazda collided with a red Honda Accord, struck the median, and overturned.

The driver of the Mazda and her 25-year-old passenger both died at the scene.

The driver of the Honda was trapped within the wreckage and had to be extricated by Houston Fire Department officials cutting her from the vehicle.

She was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries including a broken leg.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident at this time.
