HOUSTON, TX – A 3-year-old girl was killed, and a man and a 4-month-old infant were injured in a collision on the Eastex Freeway yesterday, according to KTRK.

This is an update to a previous news story.

The crash happened on northbound Highway 59 (Eastex Freeway), near Laura Koppe Road, yesterday morning, when the 23-year-old driver of a white Chevrolet Traverse attempted to drive around a pallet of debris that was lying in the roadway following a previous accident.

She was struck by a green Ford Taurus, and the impact caused both vehicles to spin.

A 3-year-old girl riding in the Traverse was taken to the hospital, and there, she was pronounced dead.

A 4-month-old infant girl, who also had been a passenger in the Traverse, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The 79-year-old driver of the Taurus was taken to the hospital with a broken leg and other minor injuries.

Authorities do not believe either driver was under the influence at the time.
