Narrative

HEBBRONVILLE, TX – Three people, including two first responders from Zapata, died Wednesday after a head-on collision along the highway in Hebbronville.

The incident happened at 5 a.m. on State Highway 16, which runs north to south through the center of the city.

Police say that a westbound 2016 GMC Sierra veered into the eastbound lane collided head-on with a Victorious Care Ambulance.

Both drivers and the passenger in the ambulance died at the scene of the crash.

Authorities identified the victims from the ambulance as 66-year-old Andres Botello and 23-year-old Jose Guadalupe Cepeda Lara. They identified the driver of the GMC Sierra as 27-year-old Jaime Barrera Jr.
