NEW DEAL, TX (LUBBOCK COUNTY) – An 18-year-old changing a tire was fatally struck by a semi-truck on I-27 in Lubbock County this weekend, according to EverythingLubbock.
The crash happened about half a mile north of New Deal at 1:40 a.m. Saturday, as 18-year-old Lubbock resident Mark Anthony Holmes was driving a Dodge Ram. The Dodge experienced a blowout on its front-left tire.
Holmes pulled over to the shoulder, and then got out of his vehicle.
He was then struck by the 64-year-old driver of a semi-truck, Lubbock resident Douglas Dewayne Rogers.
Holmes was taken to the hospital, and there he was pronounced dead.
Rogers was not reported as injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident at this time.
