2 dead after driver fails to yield on SH-349 near south Midland

MIDLAND, TX — According to YourBasin, two drivers were killed in a collision Wednesday morning after one failed to yield on State Highway 349 near south Midland.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the scene near the intersection with County Road 140, about 3 miles south of the city. The crash was first reported on August 3, shortly before 5:00 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 55-year-old Midland man was behind the wheel of a semi-truck and trailer traveling southbound on SH-349 when he approached the intersection. A 38-year-old Oglesby man was driving a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck eastbound on CR-140 when he failed to yield the right of way at SH-349.

Officials said the vehicles collided and caught fire in the impact of the crash. Troopers arrived to find both the semi and the pickup engulfed in flames.

According to the DPS, both drivers died from their injuries at the scene.
