Narrative

An 87-year-old Hobbs, New Mexico resident died Wednesday, November 9, after a hit-and-run crash on Texas State Highway 176 near east Andrews. The fatal incident occurred on the eastbound lanes about 15 miles east of the city, at around 12:32 p.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety said a 52-year-old woman, also of Hobbs, New Mexico, was driving a 2006 Ford Expedition eastbound behind a truck tractor. At one point, the Expedition driver tried to pass the truck-tractor. The driver in the truck-tractor then made an unsafe lane change and collided with the Expedition. The impact caused the driver of the Expedition to lose control of the vehicle as it skidded sideways and then overturned. The victim, who was a backseat passenger in the Expedition, was ejected from the vehicle. He died from his injuries at the scene. The truck-tractor continued eastbound on SH-176 without stopping. At this time, the Texas Highway Patrol continues to search for the fleeing semi-truck. The identity of its driver remains unknown.
