DUI suspect arrested after injury crash outside Midland bar

MIDLAND, TX — One person was hospitalized Saturday night after being pinned between two cars by a suspected drunken driver in Midland, reports Your Basin.

The incident occurred outside a bar on North Big Spring Street, on the night of August 20.

According to authorities, a 21-year-old man was observed starting fights with other patrons inside the bar and escorted out of the business by an off-duty Midland Police Department officer who was working security.

Officers at the scene said they witnessed the young man get into a vehicle and “recklessly” accelerate before colliding with another vehicle in the parking lot. A pedestrian was hit and pinned between the two vehicles, causing the victim to fall to the ground unconscious.

The patient suffered serious injuries to one leg and was transported to a local hospital.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody and booked into Midland County Detention Center. As of Monday, August 22, he remained at the facility with a bond set at $50,000.
