ANDREWS CO., TX – Nine people have died and two others suffered serious injuries after a head-on collision Tuesday night.
According to NewsWest 9, the fatal accident occurred on FM 1788 just north of State Highway 115 at 8:17 PM on March 15th.
A Dodge 2500 pick-up truck was traveling southbound when the vehicle crossed over the center line and struck a Ford passenger van head-on. Both vehicles caught fire on impact.
The passenger van was registered to the University of the Southwest. The university’s golf team had been traveling to a tournament at the time of the crash.
Seven occupants of the van died as a result of the crash, including six students and one faculty member. Two other students suffered serious injuries and are currently hospitalized.
Both the driver and passenger of the pick-up truck died in the crash as well.
The victims have yet to be identified.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the fatal collision.
