Narrative
SAN ANTONIO, TX — One person died Thursday morning after a tractor-trailer crashed and caught fire on Interstate 35 in northeast San Antonio. The fatal wreck occurred on the southbound lanes approaching the city’s Northeast Side, shortly after 12:30 p.m. Few details have been released, but San Antonio Police said the driver of an 18-wheeler lost control, causing the vehicle to crash and become engulfed in flames. The victim, who was a passenger in the big rig, died in the crash. Officers and witnesses were able to rescue the driver, who suffered minor injuries. It remains unclear at this time what caused the driver to lose control of the 18-wheeler, which was carrying “large spools of metal cable.” An investigation was underway.
