Man fatally hit by car while walking to convenience store in SW San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A 65-year-old man walking to the convenience store was fatally struck by a pickup truck in southwest San Antonio on Tuesday night, according to KSAT.

The crash happened in the 5700 block of S Zarzamora Street, near Fitch Street and Milvid Avenue, at about 9:20 p.m., as 65-year-old Rugelio Zavala Torres was walking across the street with a grocery cart towards a convenience store.

One driver, operating a silver car, managed to swerve to avoid striking Zavala Torres. The driver traveling behind the silver vehicle, however, was unable to avoid a collision. The vehicle, a Ford F-150 pickup truck, then crashed into the victim.

Both drivers stopped and attempted to render aid after the collision.

Zavala Torres, however, was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple blunt force injuries.

Neither driver was intoxicated or speeding when the accident occurred.

According to authorities, the area near the crash has had pedestrian accidents before, and there is no crosswalk nearby.
