Narrative

A woman died Wednesday, November 23, after a racing car struck another vehicle in San Antonio’s South Side. The fatal wreck occurred in the 1300 block of Southeast Military Road at about 3:00 p.m., near Mission Road and Roosevelt Avenue. San Antonio Police said a 31-year-old male driver and a 32-year-old woman were traveling with two children in the backseat. Witnesses said their vehicle was speeding and racing another car westbound when it turned onto Mission Road. Moments later, it struck an eastbound vehicle. The impact of the crash sent the racing car into a telephone pole, a light pole, and then a metal fence. Officials said the female passenger, aged 32, was impaled by the metal pole as a result of the crash. She was rushed to a local hospital where she died from her injuries. The male driver and the two children were taken to the hospital to be evaluated, but no one else was reported hurt. Authorities arrested the male driver, aged 31. He has since been charged with “racing on a highway causing death,” in addition to “endangering a child.”
