Narrative

San Antonio Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Tuesday involving a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 90 in west San Antonio. Officers responded to the main lanes of eastbound US-90, just east of Interstate 410, near Lackland Air Force Base. Authorities said drivers of a pickup truck and compact car had stopped near the scene, where an unidentified pedestrian was found deceased. One driver told officers he was trying to avoid hitting a kitchen sink in the roadway and swerved, but it was unclear how the pedestrian was hit. All eastbound lanes were blocked in the aftermath of the wreck, causing a miles-long traffic backup. Just before 9:00 a.m., the vehicles had been cleared by tow crews and all lanes were reopened.
